A write-enabled, diagnostic diskette is required. Make sure that the diskette does not have more than one label attached to it. Multiple labels can cause damage to the drive or cause the drive to fail. If an error occurs with the internal diskette drive, reconnect the diskette connector on the system board.If the error still remains reconnect the external diskette drive/DVD-ROM module and replace the external diskette drive/CD-ROM module. With more people using Wireless Compaq PCMCIA and Cardbus adapters for networking at home and at work, we are seeing a lot of laptops with damaged PCMCIA ports. The problem seems to occur when the laptop is carried in a case without unplugging the Kentish Town wireless card. This causes the card to push into the port and break it or dislodge it from the socket on the motherboard. In some cased the Kentish Town PCMCIA slot is soldered onto the motherboard and the force can pull the tracks off the pcb surface. Dislodged and broken ports can be repaired, but soldered ones may require a replacement of the whole motherboard. This expensive repair can be easily avoided unplugging the card before putting it in a carry case. External Monitor No Display. There is no display or picture abnormal on CRT monitor, but it is OK for LCD. Confirm monitor is good and check the cable are connected properly. We give you an honest and realistic quote before you send us the laptop. We try to prevent uneconomical and impossible repairs being sent to us - this saves you time and carriage costs. No point in flogging a dead horse.

Q. What is the time scale for repairs?

A. It really depends on the exact nature of the fault. Most backlights, keyboards, LCDs and broken power socket pins can be repaired in 1-2 days, when parts are in stock, otherwise 4-5 days. Video and motherboard faults usually take 2-5 days because extensive testing is required after repairs. Same day repairs need to be prearranged to ensure that engineer time and parts are allocated for the job - please call.

Q. What happens if my computer develops the same fault during the 90 day warranty period.

A. We have a very low returns rate, about 1 in 50 repairs. With all complex electronics there is a small chance that a fault may recur. We aim to give all warranty jobs top priority and fix the fault quickly. We also reimburse the postage for warranty returns. If the fault can't be repaired then a FULL REFUND will be given for the initial repair and the laptop returned to you.
