HP headphone sockets can be damaged by yanking the cable. The headphone socket can be replaced on most HP laptops. Usually there are 5 solder points on the motherboard and very delicate solder work is necessary. Pulling on the socket without melting the solder can cause the tracks on the motherboard to be pulled off and broken. Once the tracks are damaged it is very diffucult to reconnect the headphones socket. If the touchpad doesn’t work, do the following actions one at a time to correct the problem. After rebooting, run Tracking Pad PS2 Mode Driver. For example, run Syn touch driver. Run utility with the PS/2 mouse function and check if the mouse is working. Keyboard or Touch-Pad Error. Error message of keyboard or touch-pad failure is shown or any key does not work. Try another good Keyboard or Touch-pad. Check for liquid spills on keyboard.
