The transformer on Packard Bell inverter may burn out and cause a backlight problem. A write-enabled, diagnostic diskette is required. Make sure that the diskette does not have more than one label attached to it. Multiple labels can cause damage to the drive or cause the drive to fail. If an error occurs with the internal diskette drive, reconnect the diskette connector on the system board.If the error still remains reconnect the external diskette drive/DVD-ROM module and replace the external diskette drive/CD-ROM module. Dell headphone sockets can be damaged by yanking the cable. The headphone socket can be replaced on most Dell laptops. Usually there are 5 solder points on the motherboard and very delicate solder work is necessary. Pulling on the socket without melting the solder can cause the tracks on the motherboard to be pulled off and broken. Once the tracks are damaged it is very diffucult to reconnect the headphones socket.
