Sony headphone sockets can be damaged by yanking the cable. The headphone socket can be replaced on most Sony laptops. Usually there are 5 solder points on the motherboard and very delicate solder work is necessary. Pulling on the socket without melting the solder can cause the tracks on the motherboard to be pulled off and broken. Once the tracks are damaged it is very diffucult to reconnect the headphones socket. There are many cables within your Packard Bell laptop. There may be cables to connect the floppy drive, hard drive, display, inverter and CD Drive. Most cables have no problems. The inverter/display cable can have wear and tear problems. That cable is flexed every time the screen lid is opened and shut. A lot of Acer cables get damaged when customer decide to dismantle their laptops. Cables are designed to be removed from their connectors by pulling the connector out - NOT YANKING THE WIRE. Many manufactures are now refusing to supply cables that connect the LCD to the motherboard - apparently the whole screen needs to be replaced(?). Be very careful with those cables.
