Adding boron makes the silicon become a p-type semiconductor. All laptops have a hinge joint between the screen and the keyboard part of the laptop. Some hinges routinely fail - eg the dell Inspiron and the Compaq Presario. Other hinges can be damaged by dropping the laptop. Some manufactures refuse to sell the hinges and insist that the hinge is an integral part of the screen and as such the whole screen should be replaced. We can usually supply working hinges from new and used machines we break up for spare parts. Power on the computer using each of the following power sources: Remove the battery pack.Connect the power adapter and check that power is supplied. Disconnect the power adapter and install the charged battery pack; then check that power is supplied by the battery pack. If you suspect a power problem.

Q. How can you offer a NO FIX - NO FEE service when most companies charge for running diagnostics and engineer time even when they can't repair the laptop or the parts are too expensive?

A. Our aim is to only profit from successful repairs. We are confident that our expert engineers will repair 95% of the laptops we receive at the quoted price. We give you an honest and realistic quote before you send us the laptop. We actively discourage uneconomical and impossible repairs being sent to us - this saves you time and carriage costs. 

Q. What happens if the cost of repair is higher than the phone quote?

A. There are a few cases where a laptop has suffered more damage than the initial diagnosis would suggest. The engineer will call you with his findings and provide you with a revised quote. You have the right to decline the repair. If you collect your laptop from our premises there is absolutely NO CHARGE.

Q. What is the delivery charge for returning the laptop?

A. We charge £18+VAT delivery/insurance for laptops being returned to a UK mainland address. You can also arrange for collections from our premises and only pay your own courier service. 

Q. Some companies try to sell you a replacement laptop because they make bigger profits on sales than on repairs. Do you sell laptops? 

A. We are a repair company 100% - we don't sell any laptops, so there is no conflict of interest. We understand that moving to a different laptop can be a big inconvenience and very time consuming. Most users prefer to have their existing laptop, with all their favourite software and data, fixed. Most new laptops are now sold with Vista and users may need more time to learn the new operating system. Your old camera, scanner, printer or webcam might need new Vista drivers. Some manufacturers have no plans to create Vista drivers for older hardware.

Q. What is the time scale for repairs?

A. It really depends on the exact nature of the fault. Most backlights, keyboards, LCDs and broken power socket pins can be repaired in 1-2 days, when parts are in stock, otherwise 4-5 days. Video and motherboard faults usually take 2-5 days because extensive testing is required after repairs. Same day repairs need to be prearranged to ensure that engineer time and parts are allocated for the job - please call.

Q. What happens if my computer develops the same fault during the 60 day warranty period.

A. We have a very low returns rate, about 1 in 70 repairs. With all complex electronics there is a small chance that a fault may recur. We aim to give all warranty jobs top priority and fix the fault quickly. We also reimburse the postage for warranty returns. If the fault can't be repaired then a FULL REFUND will be given for the initial repair and the laptop returned to you. 

Q. Do you have a workshop in Alperton?

A. We are based in Harrow Middlesex (North London), but we do service laptops and supply spare parts for customers all over the UK including Alperton.

Compaq wanted me to pay for a new motherboard. It only takes a second to disconnect the adapter and avoid an expensive repair. A lot of Alperton users put their laptops in a carry case with the AC adapter plugged in.
