Advent 8465 VGA Video Graphics faults
The system starts up with dots or lines on the bios or intro screen. Graphics are distorted, blocked or pixilated. In some cases the system refuses to boot. Strange effects when windows or mouse are moved on the screen. All these effects can be caused by a faults related to the graphics chips. About 90% of faults can be repaired, the rest are caused by damage to the motherboard and impossible to repair. Advent 8465 LCD Backlight & inverters
The laptop switches on but the screen remains dark. In some cases a faint image is visible on the 8465 screen. This problem can be caused by a faulty 8465 fluorescent light, inverter, video cable or a problem on the motherboard. Specialist tools are required to determine the exact cause of the fault. Backlights use very high voltages and it is easy to cause damage to the system if they are not correctly handled and installed. Our engineers can replace the backlight lamps in most TFT/LCD screens including the new xbrite panels.Our engineers are trained using broken LCD panels before they can operate on a customer's LCD/TFT unit.

Advent 8465 CPU problems
Intel CPUs hardly ever go wrong, but are very difficult to diagnose. Some will crash on rarely used instructions and at certain temperatures. Unfortunately, hours of testing can be in vain if the problem instruction isn't executed. Most CPU failures are cause by BGA problems. Overclocking a 8465 CPU in a laptop is not recommended as the cooling systems are designed to dissipate heat at normal speed.

There are many cables within your Packard Bell laptop. There may be cables to connect the floppy drive, hard drive, display, inverter and CD Drive. Most cables have no problems. The inverter/display cable can have wear and tear problems. That cable is flexed every time the screen lid is opened and shut. A lot of Fujitsu cables get damaged when customer decide to dismantle their laptops. Cables are designed to be removed from their connectors by pulling the connector out - NOT YANKING THE WIRE. Many manufactures are now refusing to supply cables that connect the LCD to the motherboard - apparently the whole screen needs to be replaced(?). Be very careful with those cables. Newer laptops are sold without floppy drives. The Netbooks CDRW and RAM cards have now replaced the 1.44Mb floppy drive. Faults on 8465 floppy drive can be caused by dirt, faluty disks being inserted and getting stuck in the drive. Floppy drives still 8465 provide the most convenient method of transferring small amounts of data between laptops and backups. There a small thin florescent tube at the bottom of the Acer TFT screen. This provides the lighting for the Acer screen. When the tube developes a fault the screen may give a pink or red hue to the image. We replace the tubes with high performance ultra white tubes which give a better image.
