faults The laptop starts up with dots or lines on the
bios or intro screen. Graphics are distorted, blocked or pixilated.
In some cases the system refuses to boot. Strange effects when
windows or mouse are moved on the screen. All these effects can be
caused by a faults related to the graphics chips. About 90% of
faults can be repaired, the rest are caused by damage to the
motherboard and impossible to repair. Our Advanced Video Repair
Technology enables us to restore full function to your laptop in
most cases. Manufacturers and their tech support may recommend
that you spend hundreds on a new motherboards - we've got a cheaper

Power Jack Pin or Socket The laptop will not charge the battery. When
the battery power runs out the computer stops working. We repair power sockets where the power pin has broken or has become
disconnected from the motherboard. In some cases the power connector
makes a poor connection with the Travelmate 3030 jack. This causes arcing
which can generate enough heat to melt the Travelmate 3030 dc jack and the
power pin may become lose. It is best to get the Acer power socket repair before the battery is totally depleted as this can cause permanent
damage to the battery.If you get a electrical burning smell from near the power connector then disconnect the adapter immediately. The arcing is burning away the motherboard.

LCD Backlight & inverters The laptop switches on but the screen
remains dark. In some cases a faint image is visible on the Travelmate 3030
screen. This problem can be caused by a faulty Travelmate 3030 fluorescent light,
inverter, video cable or a problem on the motherboard.
Backlights use very high voltages and it is easy to cause damage to
the system if they are not correctly handled and installed. Our
engineers can replace the backlight lamps in most TFT/LCD screens
including the new xbrite panels. It is very easy to destroy an expensive LCD/TFT when
removing/installing the CCFL. Our engineers are trained using broken
LCD panels before they can work on a customer's LCD/TFT unit.

BIOS

Many motherboards are destroyed by incomplete or corrupted BIOS
updates. A BIOS update should only be performed if it is critically
important. Don't do a BIOS update just for the sake of having the latest
version on your computer. Ensure that your computer is stable before
performing a BIOS update. Run diagnostics to check memory, hard
drive, keyboard and video graphics. In
99% of cases a failed bios update will make the computer totally unusable
so take a backup of your software and data too. Make sure that you
have a good connection to your mains adapter and that the battery is
fully charged.
